Working on the '58 Tomahawk today. Weather was in the 70's so it was a perfect day to finally squirt on the topside paint.
Good...got lots of stuff done on the trailer, repack wheels, installed the teepee, put on new safety chains and installed fittings for the motor/trailer brace.
Really ugly...Ready to paint, mixed the paint, thinner and activator as directed and let it cook for 20 minutes, while doing that I wiped the entire topside with degreaser/wax remover. All these products are from the same business and supposed to be compatible. Waited for everything to flash off and dry. When I started spraying the paint began to blister, only small tiny bubbles but really bad, Put on a thin layer and let it flash and redid again. The blistering got worse so now it's wait 24 hours, wet sand and repaint. Seriously considering roll and tip. Not going to waste another bundle $$$$ on auto paint.
There had to be some type of chemical reaction somewhere that gassed off :S

Yah good filter(s) I think it was the different primer I used or I didn't wait long enough after I wiped down with the wax/degreaser. Either way I wound up roll and tipping. Turned out OK buy nothing to shout about. Some brush streaking so I had to color sand. Let's just say it's an "eh" job.

Thanks Dave. I'm pretty sure this will be my last rebuild. Energy just isn't there anymore. When it's to the point of settling on mediocre. I'll be getting rid of most of my old inventory of parts.

Sounds like a primer/paint incompatibility issue. Automotive paint manufacturers won't warranty their paint if its applied over someone else's primer.
