Yeah Dave, then in the winter out comes the ice fishing gear. You will have to post a picture of the lake with your pontoon, then another with the F250's parked on the same lake.

Dick, are you going to go fishing or just sea trials and cruise? Trout or salmon?

We're back from a successful trip. Bill, we went fishing. Engine fired right up, no smoke. The usual adjusting of the carb in the water and we were idling at 500 rpm. Took off for a WOT run and it's the fastest one yet pushing the boat at 28 mph @ 5400 rpm. Dropped it back down to an idle, trolled @ 1.5 mph for 2 hrs and caught a limit of trout in two hrs. I touched nothing but air mixture screws and idle adjustment screws. Didn't check timing or dwell. It runs great other than needing a valve ajustment.

Hey Bill,
The Chevy DuraMax goes in the barn in the winter too with the pontoon.. I drive a Chevy Tahoe (95)in winter. Only thing I drive on the ice is a snowmobile 69 SkiDoo 12/3 or my Polaris Ranger 500. I like at least 10" of ice.
When it gets solid water here I'll post some photos of the fish shanty and stuff. B)
4 stroke, Glad you had good luck with your engine. and the fishing. I went trolling for pike today. No hits :S

4stroke,
I did not remove the powerhead to replace the cam. I just laid the engine on it's back with the cam horizontal.
I removed the dist.and fuel pump. Then removed the cam cover.
Then removed the bolts on the caps that were holding the cam inplace. Keep the caps in order. They are numbered.
Be sure to mark your timing for reassembly.
I used the manual I got from Bill R. for R and R of the cam. Also it was very useful for calculating and setting the valve clearances.
I ended up doing cam replacement twice. Second time around was easier. I just don't want to do it again. :side:

Dave, Not sure how I want to attack this. It's somewhat of a pain on the valve adjustment because of the cam removal, I'm thinking of powerhead removal as they come off easy enough. I did the last engine adjustment, did everything by the book. I had that engine completely in pieces and had to set up the cam tower gears. One thing the book doesn't tell you is the .004" backlash in the gears but if you set it up as the book says you should have it. I did check mine when everything was completed and it was a perfect .004".
Just another way to double check everything.

Had it back out today again, fishing is great, another limit in 55 minutes. Back out again tomorrow as I'm on vacation this week!

I had a great weekend too. Its pretty nice not to have to worry about sucking down a ton of gas like my old V-4's.
