TOPIC: Evinrude 1956 7.5hp 7520 question

Evinrude 1956 7.5hp 7520 question 9 years 10 months ago #94057

HI Glass fans,

Anyone know how to get the shift lever to remove from the exhaust housing on a 1956 Evinrude 7.5HP 7520? Mine is leaking and loose. I need to replace he O ring. I pulled the powerhead, removed the shift rod lever and bushing parts. The shift lever won't release from the housing. I suspect the O ring is holding it in place. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

Welcome aboard Markemark. I moved your post up here to the JEGO Forum so it would get more exposure, some folks don't frequent the Regional Forums - especially if they're not from that region!

We've got several members who are knowledgeable and always willing to lend a hand with these motors, I'm sure someone will jump in with some advice here soon. Can you post some pics as well, always helps to see what you're talking about.......... ;)

Solved it myself. It was my old parts motor that had the stuck shift lever. I finally horsed it out and found 50 years gunk around the shaft. Hopefully, it will be a easy removal and install on my good motor. It's good to have a practice/parts motor.

Thanks,

Markemark,

WELCOME ABOARD.

GLAD you solved the problem. - The Evinrude 7.5 is a GREAT OB for light boats.
(I bought mine for 20 bucks at a garage sale in 1998 & it "hasn't missed a lick" pushing my old EldoCraft jonboat for "perch jerking" in all these years.)

yours, satx
